Railway Reflections International Art Expo, in partnership with The Northern Nevada Railway Foundation 501(c)(3), announces the call for entries for its first annual art competition. Submissions of the best art being produced today, representing both the intimacies and grandeur of trains and all things related to the railroads of the world, will be accepted through May 23, 2008. A total of $5,000 in awards will be divided among various media, including the acceptable media formats listed below. Additional awards and honors include a Nevada Governor's Recognition Award and a Northern Nevada Railway Foundation Recognition Award, as well as many other cash prizes, recognition, merit, and purchase awards. Eligibility: Open to all living artists 18 and older. Up to 100 works will be chosen. Employees and board members of The Northern Nevada Railway Foundation are not eligible to enter. Criteria: Artworks must be specific to railroading and should reflect the history/future of all things related, including (but not limited to) engines, cars and equipment, personnel, stations, signage and memorabilia. Works will be chosen based on artistic merit, design and composition, technical skill and emotional interpretation. Format and size: Original art in any medium will be accepted, including oil, acrylic, scratch-board, watercolor, gouache, alkyd, tempera, casein, mixed-media, pastel, pencil, pen and ink, photography and sculpture. All two-dimensional work should be properly framed, with appropriate picture-hanging wire. Works on paper must be covered in plexiglass. Outside frame dimensions of artworks shall not exceed 48" in any one direction. Exhibit dates: Railway Reflections International Art Expo will begin with a special Artists and VIP Reception on July 16, 2008, then open to the public on July 17, 2008 and continue through August 17, 2008. Jurors: Three distinguished American art scholars will select the exhibit. Sales: Railway Reflections International Art Expo will retain a 30% commission on any sales. Copyright, Sale and Reproduction Rights: A catalog will be produced featuring the artwork juried into the exhibit and including historical text about The Virginia and Truckee Railroad. Individual images may also be selected by the Railway Reflections International Art Expo for publication and sale as prints, posters and art cards, with artist consent and royalties paid. Exhibit works may be shown in printed and website advertising and promotional materials, as well as in other Railway Reflections International Art Expo publications, with credit given to each artist. Entry Procedures: Each artist may submit up to three works. Submission is by color photograph or digital file (JPEG format only). The artist's work should fill the image area, sized to fit an 8"x10" sheet. Frame, matte, glass reflections, etc. should not show in the digital image. Computer color-correcting to accurately represent the original work is acceptable. Only one digital image may be submitted for each work. Digital images must be of good quality/resolution for reproduction, as they will represent the artwork selected in promotional materials. Label each photograph or file with the artist's last name, first initial, and the corresponding entry number (e.g. SmithJ1). Please identify the entry number and corresponding title of work on the entry form. The photograph or CD/DVD and jewel case must be clearly marked with the artists first and last name, the title(s) of the work(s), and corresponding entry number(s). If submitting more than one digital file on a single CD, each file name must be clearly identified. Any confusion in identifying entries may result in disqualification of that entry. The photographs and CDs/DVDs, official entry form and non-refundable $25.00 fee for up to three entries must be received in one package. All entries must be shipped by July 7, 2008. No entries will be accepted after May 23, 2008. Please make checks payable to Railway Reflections International Art Expo.
